The Role: Databricks Architect

Location: Houston, TX – onsite 5 days/week

Type: Long term contract

What You’ll Do: 

The Databricks Architect reviews the current Databricks environment, including workspace structure, catalogs, permissions, compute patterns, storage, and cost. This role designs the lakehouse architecture, including raw, cleaned, curated, and serving layers, plus a feature layer for models, and defines the Unity Catalog model, including catalogs and schemas, managed versus external tables, external locations, row filters, and column masks. Responsibilities include deciding workspace and catalog boundaries between environments and data domains and choosing the ingestion approach, including incremental file loads, streaming, declarative pipelines, change data capture, and federated access. The role also defines naming, ownership, lineage, and access-granting conventions and builds the compute and cost model, including cluster and warehouse types, policies, tagging, and spend forecasting. Additional responsibilities include setting up delivery and environment promotion through project bundles, source control, and catalog parameterization, as well as producing architecture decision records and diagrams and leading reviews.
