Key Account Manager – Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)

Position Summary
A rapidly growing leader in industrial automation repair management, warranty recovery, and critical spare parts solutions is seeking a Key Account Manager to manage and grow strategic relationships with major Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), Food & Beverage, E-Commerce, and related manufacturing customers throughout the Western United States.
This role will serve as the primary commercial contact for a portfolio of large national and regional accounts, including globally recognized brands such as Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Amazon, and other leading CPG manufacturers, food processors, distribution networks, and fulfillment operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving customer retention, identifying growth opportunities, expanding service adoption, and building executive-level relationships across multiple facilities and business units.
This is a remote position covering the Western United States with travel expected throughout the territory.
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow relationships with key CPG, Food & Beverage, E-Commerce, and distribution customers throughout the Western U.S.
- Develop strategic account plans focused on revenue growth, customer retention, and expansion opportunities.
- Build relationships with plant managers, maintenance leaders, reliability engineers, supply chain professionals, procurement teams, and executive stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to expand repair management, warranty recovery, spare parts management, and related service offerings across customer facilities.
- Lead business reviews and present performance metrics, cost savings, and operational improvements to customers.
- Coordinate with internal operations, engineering, supply chain, and customer success teams to ensure exceptional service delivery.
- Serve as the voice of the customer internally and advocate for continuous improvement initiatives.
- Negotiate service agreements, pricing structures, and commercial terms.
- Track sales activity, pipeline development, and account performance through CRM tools.
- Stay current on industry trends impacting consumer goods manufacturing, automation, warehousing, fulfillment, and maintenance operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent industry experience.
- 5+ years of experience in key account management, strategic sales, national accounts, or business development.
- Experience selling into Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), Food & Beverage, E-Commerce, Packaging, Distribution, Manufacturing, or Industrial Automation environments.
- Proven ability to manage large, complex customer relationships across multiple locations.
- Experience working with Fortune 500 customers is highly preferred.
- Experience working for or selling through industrial distribution organizations such as Fastenal, Grainger, Applied Industrial Technologies, Motion, MSC Industrial, SunSource, or similar industrial suppliers is highly desirable.
- Understanding of MRO procurement, maintenance operations, storeroom management, and plant reliability programs is strongly preferred.
- Strong business acumen and ability to communicate with stakeholders from plant-floor personnel through executive leadership.
- Demonstrated success growing revenue within existing accounts.
- Strong presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to travel approximately 40–60% throughout the Western United States.
- Experience with CRM systems and account planning tools.
Preferred Experience
- Industrial automation, maintenance, reliability, MRO, repair management, asset management, supply chain, or manufacturing services experience.
- Experience supporting large-scale manufacturing, food processing, beverage production, consumer goods manufacturing, warehousing, or fulfillment operations.
- Understanding of plant operations, maintenance programs, automation systems, and reliability initiatives.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have experience working for an industrial distributor, MRO supplier, automation distributor, or industrial service provider and possess an established understanding of maintenance, reliability, procurement, and manufacturing operations within large industrial facilities. Candidates who have successfully managed strategic accounts within organizations such as Fastenal, Grainger, Applied Industrial Technologies, Motion, MSC Industrial, SunSource, or similar companies will be particularly well positioned for success in this role
