Location: Warwick, NY
Compensation: $64,000-70,000 base salary (some flexibility)
Reports To: Lab Manager
Job Summary:
The Analyst is responsible for conducting sample extractions, dilutions, sample analysis and data analysis on cannabis samples. You will troubleshoot analytical and data issues on a daily basis. Additionally, the individual must be able to represent the lab to clients both over the phone and in person while transmitting the professional image of the organization.
The Chemist assists in developing new methodologies in support of, and assigned by, laboratory management. Other duties include performing routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, instrument calibration, and mentoring and training of junior departmental staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts sample extraction, dilution and analysis using state of the art analytical instrumentation including HPLC, ICP-MS, GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, and GC-MS
- Performs and confirms calculations for quality control samples
- Performs data handling and calculation of results
- Ensures accuracy of data entered into LIMS
- Assist with development and validation of new testing methodologies
- Orders chemicals and supplies for the department
- Maintains inventory of needed supplies
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education:
- A Bachelor's degree in the chemical, environmental, physical, or biological sciences, or engineering, with at least twenty-four (24) college semester credit hours in chemistry
Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in analytical chemistry, preferably in a highly regulated industry (e.g., cannabis, pharmaceuticals, food, biotechnology, etc.)
- Experience operating a full spectrum of analytical instrumentation, such as HPLC, ICP-MS, GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, and GC-MS is preferred
- Previous experience in a cannabis testing lab and/or in a supervisory capacity is a plus
Skills:
- Good technical writing skills in analytical chemistry
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) for regulatory and internal reporting
- Proficiency with data management systems, documentation, and reporting tools
- Ability to work at a fast pace, prioritize work assignments and handle stress
Additional Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older as required by NY state law
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Occasional long hours may be required during audits, inspections, or deadlines
- Ability to travel as needed
