Senior Azure Architect
About the Role
We're looking for a confident, senior Azure Architect to own the design and direction of our Azure environment. This is a hands-on role across architecture, standards, and trade-offs, and you'll be the go-to expert across the platform.
What You'll Do
- Own and drive end-to-end Azure architecture that is secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective, and take the lead in setting standards
- Build and maintain a substantial Infrastructure as Code environment with strong CI/CD patterns (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions)
- Design and implement Azure security configurations, including Entra ID, Conditional Access, PIM, RBAC, Azure Policy, Key Vault, network security, and Defender for Cloud
- Architect data and messaging services: Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, Azure Storage, and Azure Service Bus
- Design secure external connectivity into and out of Azure, including partner and hybrid integrations (ExpressRoute, VPN, Private Link, Azure Firewall, API Management)
- Design customer-facing identity and access management (IAM) solutions, such as Entra External ID/B2C
- Define landing zone, subscription, and governance strategy
- Drive observability, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity design
- Own FinOps practices: cost visibility, tagging, rightsizing, and reservations
- Lead migration and modernization efforts for legacy workloads
- Mentor engineers, review designs, and advise leadership and business stakeholders
Required
- 8+ years with a strong background in Azure cloud architecture
- Experience in a mid-sized organization where you've worn many hats and worked across a wide breadth of Azure services
- Deep, hands-on Infrastructure as Code experience (Bicep and/or Terraform) in a large, mature environment; this is a core requirement
- Extensive experience configuring Azure security (identity, network, policy, secrets management, threat protection)
- Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Storage, and Azure Service Bus
- Experience designing external and customer-facing integrations, including IAM for customer-facing applications
- Confidence to lead, make decisions, and take ownership of architecture, backed by the humility to admit what you don't know
- Clear communication with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders; strong architecture documentation habits
