Job Description

Shop Lead

Position Overview

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who runs a crew from the shop floor. You will open the shop each morning, line out a team of 6 that is growing toward 10, and keep refurbishment work on schedule in a 50,000 square foot facility. Our client wants a dependable, organized lead who knows the trades and sets the standard for the crew every day.

Salary: $30-$40+/hour
Location: Darlington, PA
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6am-4:30pm, with some overtime

Client Overview

A growing equipment refurbishment company serving oil and gas production operators. The business runs out of a 50,000 square foot shop and is investing in new technology and equipment to modernize how work is scheduled and tracked. The team is small and close-knit, so the Shop Lead has a direct line to management and a real hand in how the floor runs.

Responsibilities

  • Open the facility each morning and line out the crew before the shift starts
  • Coordinate daily shop tasks, assign work orders, and manage workflow so refurbishment projects finish on schedule
  • Build the next day’s plan before leaving each evening
  • Lead a shop team of 6, with plans to grow to as many as 10
  • Lead complex mechanical rebuilds, assembly, fabrication, and testing of production equipment such as separators, GPUs, treaters, and dehydration units
  • Handle pipe, flange, fitting, and plumbing or pipefitting work alongside the crew
  • Coach, train, and mentor junior shop technicians to build their technical skills and safety awareness
  • Inspect incoming equipment and perform final quality checks on refurbished units before they ship
  • Enforce a strong safety culture and keep the shop clean, organized, and compliant with OSHA and company standards
  • Set the standard for professionalism, attendance, and accountability on the floor
  • Provide occasional on-site technical support or leadership during field installations and specialized maintenance projects
  • Keep the Shop Manager informed on job status, delays, and material needs

Requirements

Required:

  • Prior leadership experience as a foreman, shop supervisor, or shop lead
  • Proven ability to lead a small team, delegate effectively, and keep shop morale high
  • 5+ years of hands-on mechanical experience in a shop, fabrication, or industrial setting
  • Strong knowledge of piping, valves, flanges, fittings, and standard refurbishment and fabrication processes
  • Strong task management and scheduling skills
  • Dependable attendance and a track record of being first in and last out
  • Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced shop, handle varying shop and outdoor conditions, and lift heavy equipment components
  • Willingness to work early starts, some overtime, and occasional Saturdays
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a standard background check

Preferred:

  • Hands-on experience with upstream oilfield production and processing equipment
  • Knowledge of oilfield vessel mechanics and instrumentation
  • Familiarity with oil and gas terminology
  • Hands-on welding ability
  • Broad general trade knowledge across mechanical, plumbing, and fabrication work

Benefits

  • Health insurance with 90 percent of the employee premium covered
  • Paid time off
  • Direct hire position with a stable, growing operation
  • Room to grow with the crew as it expands from 6 to 10
  • Investment in new technology and equipment
