Senior Buyer
Position Overview
If you know pipe, valves, and fittings and want to own the full procurement lifecycle on major natural gas infrastructure, this one is worth a look. Our client is scaling up supply chain operations and needs an experienced buyer who can hit the ground running on high-visibility projects in Houston. This is a 12-month contract with strong potential for extension.
Location: Houston, TX (On-site, locals only)
Schedule: Hybrid (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday in office; Wednesday, Friday remote)
Duration: 12 months, with potential for extension
Client Overview
Our client is a major utilities and energy company with growing midstream operations. They are ramping up supply chain capacity to support project growth and need experienced buyers who understand natural gas materials and can work effectively across engineering, legal, project management, and supplier teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead material procurement management for assigned projects of varying complexity
- Develop, issue, and manage RFPs, RFQs, and RFIs; conduct bid analyses and commercial evaluations
- Serve as single point of contact (SPOC) for all purchase orders within your area of responsibility
- Negotiate with suppliers using commercial analysis and market knowledge
- Liaise with bidders, suppliers, and internal stakeholders including engineering, legal, risk, and project teams
- Maintain SAP records with all relevant purchase order information
- Lead cross-functional teams and drive savings opportunities, process improvements, and efficiencies
- Present recommendations to business leaders on cost drivers, supplier performance, and industry trends
- Identify future supply chain needs based on data, business unit requirements, and market analysis
Requirements
Required:
- 4-year university degree (supply chain management designation a plus); relevant experience will also be considered
- 5+ years of procurement experience purchasing natural gas equipment (pipe, valves, fittings, engineered equipment)
- 2+ years of SAP experience
- Strong knowledge of strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, and RFP/RFQ processes
- Technical and commercial experience in midstream materials and equipment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to leadership
- Authorization to work in the US (US Citizen, Green Card, or Green Card-EAD)
Preferred:
- Experience procuring services in addition to materials
- Background with pipeline and facilities construction for natural gas companies
- Established supplier relationships for interstate natural gas pipe, valves, and fittings
