CNC Lathe Machinist

Position Overview

Join a precision manufacturing team operating 2-4 axis CNC turning centers to fabricate high-quality metallic and nonmetallic parts. This role combines technical expertise with hands-on machining skills in a shop that values craftsmanship and continuous learning.

Salary: Based on Experience
Location: Natrona Heights, Pa
Schedule: 4-day work week (10-hour shifts) - Choice of 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM or 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret blueprints, manuals, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequencing, and setup requirements
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials on CNC lathes
  • Monitor machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls as needed
  • Verify dimensions of finished parts using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, height gauges, CMMs, gauge blocks)
  • Deburr edges and holes of parts and protect components from damage during production and subsequent operations

Requirements:

Required:

  • Proven ability to operate and maintain CNC lathes
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (bore gauges, micrometers, etc.) and ability to identify out-of-spec measurements
  • Blueprint reading skills: interpret various view orientations, identify company/drawing numbers, revision levels, tolerances, and tap drill charts
  • Knowledge of materials, hole sizing/depth specifications, thread identification, and overall part dimensions
  • Ability to set basic tool offsets, change cutter compensation values, machine zeros, tram pins, and offset values
  • Understanding of basic "G" codes
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Preferred:

  • Experience with shop mathematics and layout techniques
  • Knowledge of machinability properties of various materials
  • Multi-machine operation experience
