Job Description
Job Title: Senior Electrical Project Engineer Gas Turbine & Battery Storage
Location: Houston, TX (starts in the Houston office; remote option after onboarding for a strong, fully qualified candidate)
About the Role:
A publicly traded energy infrastructure company that builds and runs fast-track power plants for data centers, utilities and industrial customers is adding a senior electrical engineer to its project team. You will own the electrical side of hybrid generation sites that pair natural gas turbines with large lithium-ion battery systems, carrying each project from early design to energization. Expect a mix of hands-on engineering, vendor and contractor coordination, and schedule and budget accountability.
What Youll Do:
- Direct electrical engineering for turbine-driven plants and battery storage installations, covering generators, excitation, inverters/PCS, battery management, and plant-wide systems such as transformers, switchgear, cable, station power, grounding, cooling and fire protection
- Produce and approve one-lines, schematics, equipment layouts, specifications, relay protection schemes and issued-for-construction packages in line with IEEE, NEC, NERC, NFPA 855, UL 9540 and IEEE 1547
- Run or review load flow, fault, coordination, harmonic, arc flash, grounding and stability studies in ETAP, SKM, PSCAD or DIgSILENT, with emphasis on how turbine generators, batteries and the grid interact
- Answer field RFIs and back up the installation and commissioning crews on electrical and plant systems
- Coordinate engineering firms, turbine OEMs, battery and inverter suppliers, utilities and regulators to keep work moving, settle technical questions and support interconnection and compliance
- Build engineering content for RFQs, compare bids, specify major electrical equipment and battery systems, and review vendor drawings and submittals
- Lead risk reviews and failure investigations (excitation problems, relay misoperations, battery degradation, inverter trips, sync issues) and drive corrective actions
- Feed the electrical scope into project schedules, budgets and milestones, and flag obstacles early
- Keep projects compliant with safety, environmental and regulatory rules, including battery-specific fire and thermal requirements
- Help optimize how batteries and turbines work together (AC- or DC-coupled, peaking, frequency response, grid support) and improve design and execution practices
What You Bring:
- BS in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- 5+ years in electrical or project engineering on simple- or combined-cycle gas plants, battery storage, hybrid/renewable integration, or heavy industrial power systems
- Working command of ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD and at least one of PSCAD or DIgSILENT
- Solid grasp of HV/LV distribution, protection and coordination, generators and excitation, inverters, and battery integration (BMS, PCS, auxiliary/thermal)
- Field experience with turbine generators, substations, switchgear, transformers and utility-scale lithium-ion systems
- Track record coordinating vendors, schedules, budgets, startup and multidisciplinary teams across several projects at once
- Clear communicator who handles a fast pace well
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship
Nice to Have:
- PE license, or on track to earn one
- Masters degree in Electrical Engineering
- Data center or behind-the-meter generation experience
