Job Description

Job Title: Project Engineer / Project Manager (PE) – Bridge & Roadway
Location: Baton Rouge, LA (corporate office)
Travel: Occasional local trips to project sites, client meetings, and construction observation (valid driver’s license required)

About the Role:
A long-standing Louisiana engineering and surveying firm is adding a licensed engineer to its Transportation Roadway & Bridge team in Baton Rouge. You’ll lead replacements of aging, structurally deficient bridges on parish and municipal roads under the state’s local bridge program, from proposal and scoping through bidding and construction. You’ll work alongside other PEs and EIs in a collaborative group. The role fits engineers with 5 to 15 years of experience, and your responsibilities will scale with your background.

What You’ll Do:

  • Define project scope and help prepare proposals and contract documents
  • Manage subconsultants for survey, geotechnical, environmental, and traffic work
  • Run hydraulic and geometric analyses for bridge and roadway design
  • Direct engineers, designers, and CADD staff in producing plans, specs, cost estimates, permit packages, and bid documents
  • Perform QC reviews of plans, specifications, and estimates before submittal
  • Support project advertisement, bidding, and contract award
  • Work with contractors during construction and perform field observation as needed
  • Own scope, schedule, budget, and team performance on multiple concurrent projects
  • Serve as a point of contact for public-sector clients, subconsultants, contractors, and community stakeholders

What You Bring:

  • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Active PE license registered with LAPELS (Louisiana)
  • 5–15 years of roadway and bridge design experience, including applying LADOTD and AASHTO (LRFD) criteria to bridge replacements
  • Strong written, verbal, and graphical communication skills
  • Solid Excel and Word skills
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, reports, and technical documents
  • Team-first attitude and comfort working with staff at every level and with clients

Nice to Have:

  • Past LADOTD roadway and bridge design projects, especially local or off-system bridge work
  • Experience with Civil 3D, MicroStation with InRoads or OpenRoads, HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS, Global Mapper, and Mathcad
