Job Description

Job Title: Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician
Location: Houston, TX or Dallas, TX (two openings, one based in each city; remote, home-based role)
Travel: Regular field travel between the Houston and Dallas markets in your own vehicle, with a company gas card and monthly vehicle allowance

About the Role:
A building automation consulting firm that is expanding its team needs two field-based BAS Technicians, one in Houston and one in Dallas, to support commercial controls projects across both metros. This is a full-time role that you run from home, with no office to report to. Most of your time is spent on job sites handling installs, startups and troubleshooting on platforms like Siemens, Niagara and Distech. You plan your own schedule around project needs, every hour you work is paid, and larger projects can bring extra overtime.

What You’ll Do:

  • Install, program, maintain and support commercial building automation hardware
  • Troubleshoot at the panel level, including controllers, inputs/outputs, power supplies and communication networks
  • Track down problems with sensors, actuators, wiring, network connections and basic control sequences
  • Take part in system startup, point-to-point verification and initial functional testing
  • Work from mechanical, electrical and controls drawings, submittals and sequences of operation
  • Support projects from installation and startup through final closeout
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers and lead technicians to keep jobs on track
  • Serve as the on-site technical contact and answer customer questions about their systems
  • Keep accurate service records and finish work on schedule and to quality standards

What You Bring:

  • At least 2 years of field experience in building automation or instrumentation and electrical (I&E)
  • Solid diagnostic skills and a methodical approach to solving problems
  • Ability to work on your own in the field and manage your time and priorities without daily oversight
  • Clear communication, both in person and in writing
  • Careful attention to detail in your work and your documentation
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general comfort with computers
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between Houston and Dallas

Nice to Have:

  • Hands-on experience with commercial control platforms such as Siemens, Niagara/Tridium or Distech
  • Exposure to commissioning or advanced system diagnostics
  • Background as a BAS tech or early-career controls professional looking to grow toward commissioning work
