Job Description

Job Title: Process Engineer – Gas Processing
Location: Houston, TX
Travel: Approximately 25%, primarily to field facilities

About the Role:
A leading independent midstream energy company is adding a Process Engineer to its Houston engineering group. You’ll own the process side of natural gas gathering and processing facilities, from simulation and equipment design through construction and startup. The work blends day-to-day plant support with full-lifecycle capital projects, so you’ll see your designs built and running. You’ll partner closely with operations, project management, and fellow engineers to keep plants safe, reliable, and running at capacity.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as a technical resource for plant operations, diagnosing problems, removing capacity bottlenecks, and improving performance
  • Support PSM programs, take part in PHAs and close out resulting recommendations, and help maintain DOT compliance
  • Build process models and heat & material balances in ProMax
  • Size and write specifications for vessels, separators, filters, tanks, exchangers, air coolers, pumps, compressors, treaters, and dehydration units
  • Determine line sizes, wall thicknesses, and piping materials for new and modified systems
  • Size relief valves, control valves, and pressure regulators
  • Create and review PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, piping plans, and isometrics, along with control narratives and cause & effect charts
  • Evaluate existing facilities for opportunities to improve safety, reliability, flexibility, and throughput
  • Prepare bid-ready scope packages for engineering, construction, and commissioning contractors
  • Carry projects from feasibility and front-end cost estimating through AFE approval, detailed design, contractor oversight, PSSR, and as-built documentation
  • Monitor budgets and schedules and keep stakeholders informed on progress
  • Take on additional assignments as business needs require

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year program
  • Working understanding of gas gathering and processing: compression, glycol and mole sieve dehydration, amine treating, NGL recovery, acid gas injection, nitrogen rejection, condensate stabilization, and slug/pig liquids handling
  • Familiarity with industry codes and regulations such as API, ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8 and Section VIII, 49 CFR 192/195, NFPA, and OSHA
  • Solid skills in Excel, Word, and Outlook, plus hands-on experience building reports in Power BI
  • Clear written and verbal communication with field crews, management, and outside vendors
  • Self-starter who works well independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Willingness to travel roughly a quarter of the time
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Nice to Have:

  • Background in gas gathering, compression, treating, dehydration, processing, fractionation, or facility construction/operations
  • Flare system modeling experience in FlareNet, Aspen Flare System Analyzer, or a comparable tool
