Job Title: Business Development Manager Oil & Gas Automation
Location: Remote (must reside in the Houston, TX area)
Travel: Regular regional travel for client meetings, site visits, and industry events
About the Role:
A Houston-based control systems integrator with a long track record across midstream, terminals, refining, and chemical facilities is adding a Business Development Manager to expand its oil and gas footprint. Youll own new-logo growth and account expansion for engineering and integration services, selling to producers, midstream operators, pipeline and terminal owners, and EPC contractors. This role suits a technically fluent seller who can turn a plants operational problems into a well-scoped automation project and carry it through to a signed contract.
What Youll Do:
- Prospect and qualify new automation, controls, and SCADA project opportunities across upstream and midstream markets
- Build and grow relationships with automation teams, engineering and operations leadership, supply chain, and other buying influencers
- Sell a full services portfolio: PLC and DCS configuration, HMI/SCADA design, control panel builds, legacy system migrations, startup/commissioning, and long-term support agreements
- Target production operators, gas processing and compression facilities, pipeline owners, bulk terminals, and EPC firms
- Run discovery conversations to uncover technical requirements, schedules, budget ranges, and how the customer buys
- Work alongside engineering and estimating to shape scopes, build proposals, and set pricing
- Drive opportunities from first contact through negotiation and award
- Maintain account strategies, keep CRM records current, and deliver reliable pipeline and revenue forecasts
- Hit bookings and margin goals while turning first projects into repeat work
- Hand awarded work off cleanly to project engineering and field teams
What You Bring:
- 5+ years in business development or technical sales for an industrial automation, controls, or systems integration provider
- A record of closing automation or engineering services work with oil and gas customers
- Comfort both hunting new accounts and nurturing existing ones
- Working knowledge of PLCs, DCS, HMI/SCADA, field instrumentation, and industrial control architectures
- Experience selling project-based services with long, multi-stakeholder sales cycles
- Polished presentation, proposal, and negotiation skills
- Willingness to travel to customer offices, field sites, and trade events
Nice to Have:
- Prior sales role at a systems integrator
- An existing network across producers, midstream operators, or EPCs
- Exposure to platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Emerson DeltaV, Schneider/Foxboro/Triconex, Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware, or CygNet
- Hands-on background in controls engineering, automation, or field service
- Bachelors in engineering, business, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
