Overview

A well-established EPC organization is seeking an experienced Commissioning Electrical Superintendent to lead the final-phase execution of complex industrial construction projects. This role is responsible for ensuring that electrical systems are installed correctly, tested thoroughly, and fully operational prior to turnover to operations.

You will serve as a key field leader during the commissioning and startup phases, driving safety, quality, and schedule performance while coordinating across multiple project teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily field safety briefings and enforce strict adherence to electrical safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and permitting requirements
  • Oversee pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities for large-scale electrical systems such as power distribution, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, and grounding networks
  • Perform detailed system walkdowns to verify installation completeness and identify deficiencies prior to testing
  • Direct and support functional testing activities, including insulation resistance testing, continuity checks, grounding verification, breaker testing, and system energization
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and controls-related issues encountered during commissioning
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, construction, vendors, and operations teams to ensure systems meet readiness and performance criteria
  • Track commissioning progress and communicate status updates to project leadership
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation, including test records, checklists, redlines, and turnover packages

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in commissioning and startup of large industrial electrical systems
  • Strong knowledge of power distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, and electrical infrastructure
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing field teams of ~15–25 electrical and instrumentation technicians
  • Familiarity with commissioning workflows, system completion processes, and related tracking tools/software
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced field environment
  • Effective communication and coordination skills across cross-functional project teams

  • Remote role with significant travel to project sites; candidates must be open to relocation based on project needs
  • Work is performed in active industrial construction environments with varying conditions
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and critical startup schedules as required
  • Strong focus on safety, accountability, and meeting project deadlines
