Data Center Commissioning Manager
Location: Remote (Project-Based Travel Required)

Overview
A well-established EPC organization is seeking a Data Center Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning strategy and execution across large-scale, mission-critical projects. This individual will be responsible for building and driving the full commissioning lifecycle—from early planning through startup and final handover.
This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll oversee commissioning operations, manage cross-functional teams, and ensure systems are delivered safely, on schedule, and fully operational in complex data center environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end commissioning activities across all project phases, including pre-commissioning, startup, and final system turnover
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules aligned with project milestones and contractual requirements
- Manage and coordinate Level 1–Level 5 commissioning activities, ensuring proper sequencing and execution
- Partner with engineering, construction, QA/QC, and operations teams to ensure systems are installed, tested, and validated according to design intent
- Oversee Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) commissioning scope, ensuring all testing procedures, documentation, and system validations are completed
- Coordinate with third-party commissioning agents and ensure alignment with owner requirements and acceptance criteria
- Lead commissioning meetings, provide progress updates, and proactively identify and resolve risks impacting schedule or quality
- Manage vendor and subcontractor performance related to commissioning activities, including adherence to testing protocols and documentation standards
- Ensure all required documentation—checklists, test scripts, reports, and turnover packages—is complete and accurate prior to system energization and handoff
- Establish resource plans and staffing requirements to support commissioning schedules and project deliverables
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent field experience
- 8+ years of experience in commissioning, construction management, or startup of large-scale industrial or mission-critical facilities
- Strong understanding of commissioning lifecycle phases (L1–L5) and how they integrate with construction and project delivery
- Experience working on data centers or other mission-critical environments preferred
- Broad knowledge of building systems, including electrical, mechanical (HVAC), plumbing/piping, controls, and instrumentation
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple stakeholders in complex project environments
- Experience working with commissioning plans, QA/QC processes, and construction documentation
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Work Environment & Expectations
- Remote role with significant travel to project sites; flexibility to relocate based on project needs is required
- Work is performed in active construction and operational environments with varying conditions
- Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and critical commissioning schedules as needed
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and meeting project deadlines
