Plumbing Engineer

Location: Southwest Houston, TX
Type: Full-Time | On-Site


Position Overview

A well-established MEP consulting and design firm in Houston is seeking a Plumbing Engineer to support the design and execution of commercial and industrial building projects. This role is responsible for full lifecycle plumbing system design—from initial concept through construction support—across a variety of facility types.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design plumbing systems including:
    • Potable water
    • Sanitary and vent systems
    • Stormwater drainage
    • Specialty/process piping systems
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings and models using Revit MEP and AutoCAD
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for system sizing, pressure, and flow analysis
  • Specify plumbing equipment including fixtures, pumps, valves, and water heating systems
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and architectural teams to ensure integrated designs
  • Conduct field observations and support construction to ensure design compliance
  • Ensure all designs meet applicable codes and standards:
    • IPC, UPC, ASPE, NFPA, and local jurisdiction requirements
  • Prepare construction documents, technical reports, and cost estimates
  • Incorporate sustainable design practices (water conservation, reuse systems, etc.)
  • Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and best practices

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or related Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of plumbing design experience in commercial and/or industrial environments
  • Proficiency with Revit MEP and AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of plumbing systems, codes, and design standards
  • Experience coordinating with multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong communication and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with complex facility types (healthcare, labs, data centers, manufacturing)
  • Knowledge of:
    • Medical gas systems
    • Steam and process piping systems
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems and BIM coordination workflows
  • LEED accreditation or experience with sustainable design initiatives
