ICS/OT Network Engineer

Overview

An IT/OT Engineering Services provider supporting the oil & gas industry is seeking an experienced ICS/OT Network Engineer to join its Houston-based team. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, commissioning, securing, and supporting industrial OT networks across onshore and offshore environments.

The ideal candidate has deep hands-on experience with industrial networking, servers, firewalls, virtualization, and cybersecurity within OT/ICS environments and can independently troubleshoot complex, unfamiliar systems while maintaining uptime in production operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-level IT/OT support to multiple oil & gas clients

• Design, set up, and implement industrial OT networks

• Install, configure, and support hardware, software, and peripheral equipment

• Deploy and support industrial servers, switches, routers, firewalls, and workstations

• Diagnose and resolve customer-reported system incidents, problems, and events

• Troubleshoot complex OT/ICS network, server, and system issues in live production environments

• Maintain and improve OT infrastructure plans, processes, procedures, and standards

• Perform OT asset management and inventory tracking

• Support and perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and commissioning activities

• Work with senior IT/OT engineers to apply cybersecurity policies and controls

• Recognize, apply, and maintain ICS/OT security standards, including:

  • IEC-62443 / ISA-99

  • NIST SP 800-82

  • ISO 27001

• Implement and maintain client backup and disaster recovery solutions

• Perform efficiency and security audits of OT systems and networks

• Advise on and specify hardware and software procurement for OT environments

• Support Windows domain services, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy

• Ensure systems meet availability, reliability, and security requirements

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as an ICS/OT Network Engineer or IT/OT Engineer

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field

• Strong hands-on experience with:

  • Industrial networking and OT architectures

  • Network and server troubleshooting in OT/ICS environments

  • Windows Server and Windows Desktop platforms

  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO

  • Virtual environments (VMware)

• Experience with:

  • Dell, Cisco, Stratix, and Hirschmann switches and routers

  • Dell and HP servers and workstations

  • Industrial network protocols

  • Thin-client environments

• Ability to troubleshoot unknown, undocumented, or legacy OT environments

• Strong organizational and multitasking skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong customer-service orientation and ability to work under pressure

Preferred Qualifications

• Oil & gas and/or offshore production environment experience

• Cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, CISM, ISA62443, Security+, or equivalent

• Experience with Rockwell AssetCentre

• Familiarity with backup and recovery platforms

• Commissioning and startup experience

• Working knowledge of OT/ICS cybersecurity frameworks and best practices
