A growing MEP engineering firm is expanding its Charlotte office and is adding an Electrical Engineer to support a steady pipeline of building design work. This role is ideal for an engineer who can independently lead electrical system design while collaborating across disciplines in a fast-moving consulting environment.
You’ll be trusted with full electrical design responsibility on assigned projects and will serve as a technical resource for designers, project managers, and external stakeholders.
Design and engineer electrical systems for a wide range of building types, including commercial, institutional, industrial, healthcare, and multifamily developments
Develop complete power distribution designs covering panels, switchboards, transformers, overcurrent protection, feeders, raceways, generators, and related infrastructure
Engineer lighting systems for both interior and exterior applications, including fixture layouts, controls, and photometric performance
Design and coordinate fire alarm systems and other life-safety support systems
Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop, short-circuit, fault current, load demand, and lighting photometrics
Oversee and review the work of electrical designers to ensure technical accuracy and constructability
Coordinate electrical design requirements with clients, architects, contractors, utilities, code officials, and internal project teams
Serve as Engineer of Record and apply professional seal where required by jurisdiction
Conduct energy code compliance analysis and document required calculations
Participate in field investigations and due diligence efforts to support design decisions
Support construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, RFI responses, site observations, and field reports
Prepare and edit technical specifications in accordance with CSI MasterFormat standards
Represent the electrical discipline in project meetings and clearly communicate design intent and technical decisions
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license with the ability to obtain licensure in multiple states
Minimum of 5 years of experience designing electrical systems for building projects
Demonstrated ability to independently lead electrical design efforts with limited oversight
Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, energy codes, and applicable building codes
Comfortable interfacing directly with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, and construction teams
Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Experience with lighting analysis tools such as ElumTools, Visual, or comparable software
Familiarity with SKM or similar electrical modeling platforms preferred
AutoCAD experience strongly preferred
Revit MEP experience a plus
Prior exposure to project management responsibilities is beneficial
