Overview
A rapidly expanding automation consulting firm is growing its Texas operations and is adding a Senior Automation Controls Engineer to its Houston office. This position focuses on designing, programming, and commissioning industrial control systems from the device level to full-scale automation networks. You’ll be part of a technical team that supports clients across multiple industries, ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient process control solutions.
Oversee automation and controls projects from concept through commissioning.
Develop PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA logic and interfaces using multiple vendor platforms.
Provide hands-on field services—system commissioning, troubleshooting, and startup support.
Work with drafting and design teams to prepare detailed electrical and controls documentation.
Specify components, issue purchase requests, and track materials throughout project lifecycles.
Prepare engineering deliverables including control philosophies, I/O lists, narratives, and reports.
Support proposals by assisting in cost estimates, schedules, and technical write-ups.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians, sharing knowledge on controls programming and best practices.
Participate in internal training programs to expand technical and leadership skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering (or related discipline).
Minimum 10 years of proven experience developing and implementing industrial control systems.
Practical background with rotating equipment—turbines, compressors, or pumps—preferred.
Proficient with PLC/DCS platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, GE, Schneider, ABB, or Emerson.
Experience building HMI/SCADA systems with Ignition, FactoryTalk, or Wonderware.
Familiarity with industrial networking, software and driver installation, and system integration.
Strong diagnostic and analytical skills for troubleshooting complex automation issues.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel domestically (and occasionally within North America).
PE license or EIT registration is considered a plus.
