About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Professional Electrical Engineer (P.E.) to join our Charlotte team. This role involves leading the design and coordination of electrical systems across commercial, institutional, industrial, healthcare, and multifamily projects. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to guide a project team to successful completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and oversee electrical systems, including AC power distribution, interior/exterior lighting, fire alarm systems, and other building support systems.
Supervise and review the work of Electrical Designers on assigned projects to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
Coordinate technical requirements with clients, contractors, code officials, utility companies, project managers, and other disciplines.
Seal drawings in jurisdictions where licensed and ensure all designs comply with applicable codes.
Perform calculations such as voltage drop, fault current, photometrics, power distribution, and other necessary electrical parameters.
Develop power distribution systems, including panelboards, switchboards, overcurrent protection, transformers, disconnect switches, conductors, raceways, wiring devices, and backup generators.
Conduct interior and exterior lighting design using tools such as ElumTools, Lithonia Visual, or comparable software.
Ensure energy code compliance and perform related calculations.
Perform fire alarm system design and verification.
Assist with construction administration, including reviewing submittals and shop drawings, responding to RFIs, conducting site inspections, and preparing field reports.
Participate in due diligence fieldwork to gather information required for project designs.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, healthcare, or multifamily buildings.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET/EAC-accredited program.
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with eligibility for multi-state licensure.
Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA 101, NFPA 72, energy codes, building codes).
Demonstrated ability to independently lead electrical design efforts and attend project meetings.
Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Experience with SKM or similar electrical modeling software is a plus.
AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP experience preferred.
Project management experience is a plus.
