Field Construction Manager – Midwest Region (Remote with Travel)

An established engineering and construction firm is looking for an experienced Field Construction Manager to oversee projects across the Midwest. This is a remote role, but candidates must reside in one of the following states to allow for regular project travel: WI, IL, OH, MN, IA, ID, MI, NE, MS, KY, or KS.

The position focuses on large-scale industrial and food-related facilities, including cold storage warehouses, food and beverage processing plants, distribution centers, dairy and meat processing facilities, water treatment sites, and fulfillment centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead field operations for construction projects from mobilization through owner turnover, ensuring schedules, budgets, and quality standards are consistently met.

  • Serve as the on-site representative and primary contact for clients, subcontractors, consultants, and internal project managers.

  • Coordinate all field activities, including subcontractor performance, material procurement, equipment utilization, and labor management.

  • Facilitate construction meetings, review progress reports, and approve subcontractor invoices and payment requests.

  • Oversee shop drawing reviews, submittal processes, and quality control.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements at all times.

  • Provide mentorship and direction to Assistant Field Construction staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering, Architecture, or related field; OR 10–15 years of equivalent field supervision experience.

  • Background in food facility or refrigeration-related construction preferred.

  • Deep understanding of construction methods, equipment, labor agreements, and industry standards.

  • Proficiency across all CSI divisions of work.

  • Familiarity with building codes, safety practices, and cost-estimating principles.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage high-profile industrial projects from start to finish.
