Job Title: Instrumentation & Electrical Technician
Location: West Texas (Kermit / Midland / Odessa / Big Spring area)
Position Overview
An oil & gas operating company is looking for an experienced Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician to support its natural gas gathering and processing facilities in West Texas.
This position will focus heavily on maintaining and servicing heating and fired equipment, including Amine Heaters, Regeneration Heaters, Glycol Units, Thermal Oxidizers, and Heat Medium Heaters. The role requires a hands-on technician who can ensure plant reliability and safe operations through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
Primary Duties
Perform scheduled and corrective maintenance on plant instrumentation, electrical systems, and fired equipment.
Diagnose faults in PLCs, motor controls, transmitters, and other control system components.
Test, calibrate, and configure instrumentation devices for accurate measurement and reliable operation.
Provide technical support for the installation and start-up of new control and electrical systems.
Review and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams to assist in troubleshooting.
Record all maintenance activities, test results, and equipment changes in the company’s CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and industry standards while working in the field.
Partner with operations and engineering teams to improve reliability and efficiency of plant equipment.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; additional trade/technical training is a strong plus.
Prior experience as an I&E Technician in the oil & gas, refining, or petrochemical industries.
Working knowledge of process instrumentation, motor controls, and low-to-medium voltage electrical systems.
Hands-on experience with fired equipment such as Amine Heaters, Regeneration Heaters, Thermal Oxidizers, and related process heaters.
Familiarity with PLC-based control systems, SCADA interfaces, and troubleshooting communication issues.
Strong ability to read and apply P&IDs, control diagrams, and electrical schematics.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team in field environments.
