Position: Electrical Designer
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid Work Model)
A leading manufacturer of industrial machinery located near Chicago is looking to add an Electrical Designer to their engineering team.

Collaborate closely with customer engineers and internal controls teams to develop electrical control system schematics, panel designs, and detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Manage job setup, releases, and work order processing through an ERP platform.
Verify schematic and panel designs align with NEC safety standards.
Perform audits to ensure all designs and BOMs meet UL508A certification and Short Circuit Current Rating (SCCR) criteria.
Provide technical support and clarification to panel fabricators during assembly.
Update and finalize drawings based on feedback and markups, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Maintain strong project management focus to meet deadlines and budget targets.
Use AutoCAD with the company’s standardized template libraries to create all design drawings.
Associate degree in a technical field or comparable certification.
At least 3 years of experience designing electrical schematics for industrial systems, specifically for 480VAC three-phase circuits integrating I/O modules, motor starters, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and servo motors.
Proficiency with panel layout, considering manufacturer spacing guidelines and planning conduit and cable tray routing.
Skilled in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
Familiarity with Allen-Bradley product lines such as I/O modules and VFDs.
Certification in UL508A.
Strong understanding of current NEC standards for industrial electrical systems.
Experience with branch circuit segregation and calculating loads for transformers and power supplies.
Ability to interpret commercial electrical component specs to ensure proper protection and integration.
Commitment to quality and “getting it right the first time.”
Valid driver’s license.
Experience with 690VDC common bus drive system design.
Hands-on field experience auditing retrofit installations or supervising panel installation.
Practical knowledge of panel layout and wiring assembly.
Full-time position with a hybrid schedule: onsite with the option for two remote days weekly after probation.
