Job Title: Substation Technician
Location: Rotational (reporting daily to a facility in the Carlsbad, MN area)
Schedule: Rotational – 2 weeks on / 1 week off
Hours & Overtime: 20–30 hours of overtime weekly at 1.5x pay rate
We are seeking an experienced Substation Technician to support, troubleshoot, assemble, and install power system equipment at a dedicated client site. This role offers consistent overtime, paid travel, per diem, lodging coverage, and the use of a company truck during assignments. You can live anywhere in the U.S., as long as you can work on the set rotational schedule. No engineering degree is required, and design work is not part of the role.
Provide hands-on assembly, wiring, and installation of equipment within power distribution and transmission substations
Troubleshoot and perform corrective actions on electrical systems and associated devices
Conduct preventive maintenance and functional testing of protection, measurement, and power equipment
Assist with fault identification, analysis, and resolution for electrical transmission and distribution systems
Maintain and service key substation components, including power transformers, circuit breakers, and associated controls (hydraulic, spring, pneumatic)
Verify operational readiness of safety and protection systems, alarms, and monitoring devices
Company-issued laptop and work truck for assignments
Lodging and per diem during rotations
1.5x overtime pay for billable hours beyond 40 per week
Hands-on experience in substation operations, maintenance, or power distribution work
Proficiency with electrical testing tools, fault diagnosis, and maintenance procedures
Understanding of safety protocols and industry regulations for high-voltage systems
Ability to work on a set rotational schedule and travel to site as required
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in the field
