Position: Automation Field Technician – Regional Travel Role
Location: Must reside within a two-hour radius of Minneapolis, MN
Travel: Up to 50%, including occasional short-notice assignments
We’re hiring a hands-on, technically capable Automation Field Technician to support a growing industrial controls and automation team. This role combines travel-based customer site support with shop-based responsibilities during downtime. Candidates must live within a reasonable driving distance of the company's facility for non-travel periods.
Perform on-site commissioning, maintenance, and repair of industrial automation systems
Diagnose and correct malfunctions in PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, and related components
Conduct preventive maintenance and system performance tests
Interpret control schematics, wiring layouts, and equipment documentation
Communicate directly with clients on-site to understand challenges and ensure high satisfaction
Maintain thorough documentation on service activities, components used, and outcomes
Support system integration tasks in collaboration with engineering staff
Maintain a strong safety mindset in all field and facility environments
Solid experience working with industrial control systems (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, VFDs)
Proven troubleshooting skills in field environments
Ability to read and apply technical documents like schematics and wiring diagrams
Excellent communication and customer service abilities
Willingness to travel regularly and work independently in varying conditions
Must be based within a two-hour commute of the Minneapolis region
