Job Description:
Develop physics-based coupled models for chemical, thermal and mechanical phenomena in complex battery architecture of client.
Apply knowledge of Numerical Methods in Engineering, Optimization and Finite Element Methods (FEM) to solve battery design and manufacturing problems.
Apply fundamentals of chemical kinetics to characterize reactions in battery electrolyte and electrode-electrolyte interfaces.
Apply fundamentals of material and heat transfer to model battery formation and safety tests.
Understand basics of stress-strain behavior in metals, adhesives and composite polymers to assess safety of internal and external battery components.
Use elementary physics-based equations to estimate limiting cases before any simulation and arrive at expected bounds of simulation results.
Develop optimization routines that wrap over battery models and optimize design parameters for specific performance.
Use SQL, Python or other software to extract relevant data from databases to validate models.
Make reduced order models for use in applications.
Drive product performance enhancement while minimizing cost and weight.
Collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams within the organization, including manufacturing, testing, product, and supply chain.
Be prepared for occasional travel up to 15% of the time to collaborate with manufacturing and test teams, build models and support in optimizing battery performance.
Good documentation habits and version control on models is a must have.
Required Skills:
PhD with 2 years, masters with 3 years and bachelors with 5 years of work experience in chemical, thermal or mechanical engineering are preferred.
Proficiency in chemical reaction engineering, material and heat transfer simulations.
Proficiency in one of the following software: ANSYS, COMSOL.
Moderate knowledge of SQL, Python to work with databases and analyze data.
Knowledge of numerical methods used in engineering models and optimization.
Model version control and documentation.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
Knowledge of electrochemistry and prior work experience in battery electrochemistry or battery manufacturing process modelling is a plus.
Prior experience or knowledge of mechanical engineering simulations is a plus.
Demonstrated commitment to taking ownership and thriving in a fast-paced, small team environment.
Ability to define comprehensive test plans, design relevant test setups, and analyze resulting data.
Experience with JMP, Tableau is good to have.
