Job Description

Our client is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to help power its real-time diagnostics platform for commercial power outages. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in small teams, adapts quickly, and enjoys solving complex infrastructure and data challenges from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, test, and deploy scalable backend systems for real-time data processing

• Collaborate closely with Product and Machine Learning Engineers to execute product roadmap initiatives

• Architect large-scale data pipelines and microservices to support real-time insights

• Own the full software development lifecycle: development, deployment, monitoring, and optimization

• Drive backend architecture decisions and contribute to long-term technical strategy

• Monitor production logs and system health to ensure reliable system performance

• Help stand up and mentor a growing engineering team over time

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in backend engineering roles, preferably in startup or small team environments

• Experience designing and deploying large-scale microservices and data pipelines

• Strong command of Python (Python 3 preferred), Docker, and distributed systems

• Familiarity with cloud environments (Azure preferred), PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kubernetes

• Experience with asynchronous frameworks (e.g., Tornado) and message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ)

• Ability to navigate ambiguity, ask questions, and drive clarity in execution

• Strong architectural and system design skills; able to sketch out and implement robust solutions

• Excellent collaboration skills and a desire to work closely with cross-functional teams
