Centurion is currently seeking a Cloud Architect to join their client's mission. In this role you will be a member of Foundational Technology and Operation group and report to an Assist Director. You will lead the design and governance of enterprise-scale cloud solutions that power our publishing platforms, conferences, and scientific services. This role goes beyond building systems—it requires engaging with stakeholders to uncover business needs, translating them into actionable technical designs, and serving as a trusted advisor to leadership.You will architect and deliver major initiatives such as the Integration and Orchestration Solution (ION) and the next-generation Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) platform. You will also establish cloud strategy, policies, and best practices across the organization, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, cost-effective, and aligned with business goals.This role combines strategic leadership with technical expertise in AWS, DevOps, DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code, and containerization. You will be instrumental in mentoring engineers, building enterprise DevOps and automation practices, and ensuring ACS continues to advance as a leader in scientific information delivery.Key Responsibilities:• Lead Cloud requirement discovery and analysis by engaging with technology units, business units and stakeholders to identify, clarify, and document Cloud technology requirements, translating the needs into actionable technical specifications.
• Lead the design, implementation, and governance of enterprise Cloud solutions by overseeing the full lifecycle including design, publication, versioning, access control, security, and monitoring, while ensuring the consistency, scalability, and cost, and establishing policies and best practices across the organization.
• Build an enterprise AWS cloud platform for ACS’s Integration and Orchestration Solution (ION), enabling seamless data and process flows across systems.
• Build an Cloud solution for the next generation of a CIAM solution.
• Build and manage Cloud engineering environments (dev, stag, prod, etc), ensuring robust software configuration management throughout the application development lifecycle.
• Build and manage DevOps practices, including continuous delivery, DevOps solutions, and integrated toolset solutions in an enterprise environment.
• Build and manage DevSecOps practices, including secret management, privilege management, and integrating tools to enhance baseline security.
• Build and manage CI/CD pipeline, ensuring smooth deployments and integrations using GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and containerization strategies.
• Build and manage compute clusters within cloud environments, optimizing for performance and reliability.
• Build and manage Terraform and other Infrastructure as Code to automate and manage cloud infrastructure.
• Serve as a trusted advisor and technical liaison by presenting solutions to leadership and stakeholders.
• Represent our technology division to define Cloud strategy and practice for the whole organization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile setting, utilizing Jira for task and project management.
• Mentor junior DevOps and Cloud engineers.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
• Extensive experience architecting and governing enterprise-scale AWS solutions, with proven ability to establish cloud policies, best practices, and cost optimization strategies.
• Strong skills in requirement analysis, translating business needs into technical specifications, and effectively communicating cloud solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience designing and building integration and orchestration platforms in the cloud, enabling seamless data and process flows across diverse enterprise systems.
• Familiarity with CIAM or enterprise identity management solutions, ideally in a cloud-native context.
• Experience in designing and managing multi-environment cloud setups (development, staging, production), with strong practices in configuration management and release governance.
• Demonstrated expertise in building and managing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and containerization strategies.
• Solid understanding of DevSecOps, with practical experience in secret management, privilege management, and embedding security into automated workflows.
• Advanced proficiency in Terraform, with experience in designing, automating, and managing reproducible cloud infrastructure.
• Deep experience with compute clustering and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS), optimized for performance and reliability.
• Experience working within Agile teams, using Jira or similar tools for project and backlog management.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers, lead cross-functional technical teams, and act as a trusted advisor to leadership.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python or Java preferred) for automation, tooling, and integration.
Preferred Certifications and Education Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- AWS Professional or Specialty certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional) strongly preferred.
