About the Role:
As a 30 Ton Overhead Crane Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of heavy materials and coils within a manufacturing or warehouse facility. You will work closely with production, shipping, and warehouse teams to support smooth workflow, minimise downtime, and protect equipment and inventory. Your attention to detail and adherence to safety procedures will be critical to maintaining a safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a 30-ton overhead crane to lift, move, and position coils and other heavy materials safely and accurately.
- Coordinate with ground personnel and signalers to ensure clear communication and safe load handling.
- Inspect crane, rigging, and lifting equipment before use and report any defects or issues immediately.
- Load and unload trucks, storage racks, and production lines according to work orders and schedules.
- Position and stack coils and materials to maximise space utilisation and maintain orderly storage areas.
- Follow established safety procedures, load limits, and company operating standards at all times.
- Maintain basic housekeeping in crane operating areas to ensure clear paths and safe working conditions.
- Complete required logs, checklists, and documentation related to crane operations and material movements.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience operating overhead cranes, including 30-ton capacity or similar heavy-lift equipment.
- Demonstrated experience handling coils or similar heavy, rolled materials in an industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of crane hand signals, load charts, and safe lifting practices.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, load lists, and basic layout or storage plans.
- Solid safety record with a strong commitment to following company and regulatory safety procedures.
- Physical ability to work at heights, climb ladders, and remain in a crane cab for extended periods as needed.
- Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and weekends as required by production demands.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in steel, metals, or coil processing facilities.
- Familiarity with basic rigging techniques and equipment selection for different load types.
- Experience working in a high-volume warehouse, manufacturing, or distribution environment.
- Basic computer or scanner skills for tracking inventory movements.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid overhead crane operator certification or company-recognised training.
- OSHA or equivalent safety training related to crane operations and material handling (preferred).
- Forklift certification or experience operating other material handling equipment (preferred).
