IT Business Analyst / QA Analyst

Capstone IT is helping our client find an experienced IT Business Analyst / QA Analyst to join a collaborative Agile technology team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions while taking an active role in application testing and quality assurance.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business analysis, requirements gathering, user story creation, process improvement, and functional testing. You'll work closely with business stakeholders, developers, and cross-functional teams to support application enhancements, improve business processes, and ensure solutions meet business and technical requirements.

We're looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and able to take ownership of deliverables in a fast-paced Agile environment.

 Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business and functional requirements.
• Create clear, concise user stories, acceptance criteria, use cases, and functional specifications.
• Develop process maps, workflow diagrams, and supporting documentation to identify opportunities for business process improvements.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
• Develop test plans, test cases, and test scripts to validate application functionality and business requirements.
• Perform functional, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT) for application enhancements, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance.
• Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects through resolution using Jira or similar tools.
• Collaborate with developers and technical teams to troubleshoot application issues and validate integrations with backend services.
• Support production issues, system enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate and organized project documentation throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Proactively identify project risks, communicate blockers, and escalate issues when necessary.
• Take ownership of assigned user stories, ensuring requirements and acceptance criteria are understood and met.

 Required Qualifications

• Strong experience in business analysis, requirements gathering, and business process documentation.
• Experience writing user stories, acceptance criteria, use cases, and functional requirements.
• Hands-on experience with functional testing, test case development, defect tracking, and UAT.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, preferably within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
• Proficiency with Jira or similar Agile project management and defect tracking tools.
• Ability to analyze business processes, identify gaps, and recommend improvements.
• Experience collaborating with developers, QA teams, business stakeholders, and product owners.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take initiative when requirements are unclear.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.

 Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting insurance, financial services, or enterprise business applications.
• Familiarity with One Inc., FINEOS, or group financial systems.
• Knowledge of financial workflows, FICA, taxation, or related business processes.
• Experience testing integrations between user interfaces and backend systems.
• Experience with automated testing or test automation tools.
• Familiarity with reporting, production support, and application maintenance.
