Capstone IT is assisting our client, a prominent energy services provider, to hire an IT Project Manager for a long-term contract position. This hybrid role requires onsite presence from Tuesday to Thursday at their headquarters in Portland, Oregon. In this position, you will liaise between business stakeholders and the IT department, balancing business needs with hardware capacity and supporting seamless integration.

You will manage a multi-million initiative involving twelve vendors, overseeing software development projects to ensure they are on time, on track, and within budget. Your responsibilities will include developing detailed project plans, coordinating with virtual teams and stakeholders, and engaging in technical discussions with developers. Tracking project financials, managing budgets, and aligning vendor work with business requirements will be critical. Maintaining composure and effectively managing challenges throughout the project will be crucial to ensure successful completion.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, execution, and control of large, enterprise-level IT projects within the energy trading and marketing applications domain.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans and lead project teams to achieve project goals.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks proactively to ensure success.
  • Prepare and present regular status reports for upper management.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with team members, vendors, and other departments.
  • Set deadlines, assign responsibilities, and monitor project progress.
  • Manage budgets to keep projects within financial constraints.
  • Generate or review documentation of project requirements.
  • Manage one or more enterprise-level projects.
  • Consider hardware needs and assist with capacity planning for seamless deployment.
  • Oversee all aspects of projects from inception to delivery.
  • Coordinate with virtual teams and manage remote work dynamics.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in IT project management.
  • Extensive experience managing large enterprise-level projects valued at $3-5 million or more.
  • Proficiency in project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Jira, Oracle Fusion, MS Excel, Confluence, or similar software.
  • Proficiency in Java with Oracle backend or .NET with SQL Server backend; expertise in both is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with AWS hosting.
  • Experience working with Azure DevOps (ADO) for work tracking.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies.
  • Experience in managing software development projects or leading software development teams.
  • PMP Certification (required).
  • Knowledge of the energy and utilities sector.
  • Experience managing large-scale vendor application rollouts for utilities.
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical concepts effectively.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance standards such as (NAESB).
