Labor & Employment Paralegal
Albany, NY | $60,000$70,000, Depending on Experience
A well-established law firm is seeking a Paralegal to support its Labor Department in the Albany office. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills, advanced Excel capabilities, and excellent research and technical skills are required.
A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in labor relations, employment litigation, or human resources is preferred.
Position Responsibilities
Litigation Support
- Assist with all aspects of litigation.
- Prepare and electronically file notices of appearance, pleadings, motion papers, and other litigation documents.
- Assist with discovery, including deposition notices, subpoenas, document review, and Bates stamping.
- Coordinate with clients and opposing counsel regarding deposition scheduling.
- Assist with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and trial books.
- Review and cite-check memoranda for court filings.
- Monitor court dockets, calendar deadlines, and communicate important dates to attorneys.
- Manage and organize case-related documents.
Administrative Matters
- Prepare and electronically file notices of appearance and requests for extensions.
- Review and electronically file position statements, supporting documentation, and responses to requests for information.
- Assist with preparation of documents for administrative agency filings.
- Assist with hearing preparation, including organizing exhibits.
- Monitor filing deadlines and communicate deadlines to attorneys.
- Maintain and organize case-related documents.
Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and advanced Excel.
- Experience with electronic filing systems and portals for federal and state courts, the National Labor Relations Board, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and New York State Division of Human Rights.
- Ability to redact electronic documents in PDF, PowerPoint, and Word formats.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
- Professional and effective interpersonal skills, including client interaction.
- Working knowledge of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, New York Civil Practice Law and Rules, and applicable legal procedures and deadlines.
