Job Title: Engineering Group Lead
Location: Auburn Hills, MI

Overview:
The Engineering Group Lead is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, implementing new production capacity, and ensuring uninterrupted manufacturing operations. This role focuses on maximizing quality, uptime, and efficiency through established maintenance programs and advanced engineering tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering teams in achieving continuous improvement objectives and executing capacity expansion initiatives (both new and existing programs)
  • Manage projects from initiation through completion, including scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and issue resolution
  • Develop and support cost estimates for new equipment, tooling, and retooling studies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers on concurrent engineering efforts for new program launches
  • Source external expertise and technical resources when challenges exceed internal capabilities
  • Actively identify and eliminate waste through participation in project development and process optimization
  • Drive manufacturing lines and processes to meet production readiness and performance targets
  • Lead Kaizen events and improvement projects based on prioritized operational needs
  • Present project updates and performance results to leadership at various organizational levels
  • Train, coach, and support engineering teams in the use of advanced problem-solving tools and statistical methods to reduce process variation
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting support to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), increase mean time between failures (MTBF), and reduce mean time to repair (MTTR)
  • Ensure all process and equipment documentation is accurate and up to date, including:
    • Tooling and operation sheets
    • Machine and tool drawings
    • PFMEAs and control plans
    • One-point lessons (OPLs)
    • Emergency work orders (EWOs)
    • Software backup programs
  • Lead efforts for spare parts identification, standardization, and cataloging within the assigned business unit

  • Proven experience in manufacturing engineering and continuous improvement environments
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Hands-on problem-solving mindset with strong technical aptitude
