Job Description

Angell Transport is currently hiring for the position of Director of Operations out of our Haslet, TX (76052) location. We are a transportation company based in Haslet, TX that contracted with Amazon Logistics (April 2020) to manage the execution of their regional linehaul operations. We have a fleet of (31) CNG/Diesel Day Cab/Sleeper Tractors and run solo regional runs between their warehouse networks. 
 
The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of daily operational execution, driver workforce management, and delivery performance for our Amazon Freight Partner (AFP), Angell Transport LLC. This role serves as the operational leader focused on driving efficiency, managing personnel, and ensuring consistent achievement of delivery and service metrics.

Key Responsibilities: 

Workforce Management

  • Manage the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of drivers to build a high-performing workforce.
  • Manage initial complete DQF for each new hire.
  • Create and manage driver schedules and route assignments to optimize coverage and efficiency.
  • Monitor driver performance, productivity, and attendance metrics.
  • Handle driver discipline, coaching, and performance improvement plans (in coordination with Safety and Fleet team on related items).
  • Initiate driver pay rate adjustments, PTO requests, and applicable bonuses.
  • Develop and implement driver retention initiatives and maintain workforce morale.

Daily Operations Execution

  • Execute weekly scheduling and Amazon Work Planner/CRS.
  • Monitor real-time delivery performance and on-time delivery metrics.
  • Own daily dispatch operations through relationship with Dispatch vendor and oversee timely driver communication.
  • Coordinate with Amazon on delivery requirements and expectations.
  • Manage load planning and capacity allocation across contracts and supplemental available work (Flex Block, RLB, etc.).
  • Monitor tractor availability through partnership with Fleet team and adjust operation accordingly.
  • Handle operational escalations and real-time problem-solving.

Performance & Metrics

  • Track and report on key operational KPIs including On Time Performance and Acceptance Rate along with all AFP Scorecard Metrics.
  • Analyze and dispute operational metrics.
  • Analyze route efficiency and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor labor costs and productivity ratios by managing timeclock system.
  • Ensure Amazon scorecard performance standards are consistently met or exceeded (Fantastic Plus).
Customer Service
  • Manage delivery quality and customer satisfaction issues.
  • Coordinate with Amazon on service failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Handle customer escalations requiring operational response.

Vendor Management

  • Manage relationships with device management vendors for driver devices, tablets, and technology equipment.
  • Oversee professional services vendors including payroll, HR services, and operational support contractors.
  • Coordinate with dispatch vendors and ensure optimal system performance.
  • Negotiate contracts and service level agreements with operational vendors.
  • Monitor vendor performance and address service quality issues.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $70,000 - $85,000 
  • Health insurance available 1st of the month after 30 days

Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of operations management experience in transportation, logistics, or last-mile delivery
  • Proven track record of managing driver workforce of 20+ employees
  • Strong understanding of routing, dispatch, and fleet operations
  • Experience with Amazon program preferred
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays as needed
  • Proficiency with routing software, dispatch systems, and workforce management tools
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and service contracts
  • Proven ability to supervise and develop recruitment and administrative staff
