About the Role
As a Contract ASL Interpreter with BridgeVoice Interpreters, you will provide accurate, culturally appropriate interpretation between Deaf and hearing individuals across healthcare, legal, and government settings throughout Texas. You will handle a mix of onsite and Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) assignments, ensuring message equivalency and conceptual accuracy in both consecutive and simultaneous modes.
Compensation
VRI: $35 to $45/hour
Onsite: $45 to $95/hour (2-hour minimum may apply)
Key Responsibilities
Interpret between ASL and spoken English in consecutive and simultaneous modes for healthcare, legal, and government appointments across Texas. Deliver high-quality services in a hybrid model including onsite and VRI assignments. Maintain message equivalency, conceptual accuracy, and appropriate register while adapting to diverse subject matter. Apply RID/NAD ethical standards and professional boundaries in all interactions. Prepare for assignments by reviewing available materials and terminology. Manage confidential information in compliance with HIPAA and applicable Texas regulations. Collaborate with BVI coordinators and client contacts to ensure smooth session flow and accurate documentation. Use designated remote platforms effectively and troubleshoot basic technical issues as needed.
What We Are Looking For
Certified ASL interpreter (RID, NAD, BEI, or equivalent) with verifiable credentials. Texas-based or willing to accept Texas assignments. Fluent, native-like ASL proficiency and strong spoken English. Proven experience in consecutive and simultaneous interpreting in professional settings. Solid understanding of RID/NAD ethical standards including confidentiality and role boundaries. Experience in high-stakes environments such as healthcare, legal, or government. Reliable private workspace and stable internet for remote assignments.
Preferred
Prior VRI platform experience. Familiarity with medical, legal, or Texas government-specific terminology. BEI state certification or active pursuit of Texas credentials. Ability to manage a flexible contract-based schedule across multiple assignment types.
