About the Role:

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality Canadian French translations of complex documents, ensuring linguistic accuracy, consistency, and cultural relevance. Working remotely, you will collaborate with project managers and clients to clarify requirements, manage terminology, and maintain standards across multiple assignments. Your work will directly support critical communications where precision, confidentiality, and timeliness are essential.

Pay Rate

$0.08 – $0.12 per word, based on experience and subject matter expertise

Key Responsibilities:

• Translate legal, technical, and business documents from English into Canadian French (and occasionally vice versa) with high accuracy and consistency
• Adapt content to Canadian French linguistic and cultural norms while preserving meaning, tone, and intent
• Proofread and edit translated materials to ensure correctness, clarity, and adherence to client style guides
• Use CAT tools to manage translation memories, apply terminology consistently, and optimise workflow
• Create, update, and maintain glossaries and terminology databases for recurring clients and subject areas
• Liaise with project managers and clients to clarify briefs, resolve queries, and align on expectations and deadlines
• Perform quality assurance checks on own work and, where required, on the work of other translators
• Manage multiple translation projects concurrently, tracking progress and delivering within agreed timelines

Key Requirements:

• Native or near-native proficiency in Canadian French, with excellent written expression and stylistic control
• Excellent command of English, including strong reading comprehension and writing skills
• Proven experience translating legal, technical, or business documentation in a professional context
• Demonstrated ability to work with CAT tools (e.g., SDL Trados, memoQ, Wordfast) in a production environment
• Strong understanding of Canadian cultural and linguistic nuances across regions and sectors
• Solid experience in proofreading and editing translations for accuracy, consistency, and tone
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting, managing priorities and meeting tight deadlines
• Strong written communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with clients and internal teams
• High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance practices
• MUST be US or Canadian residents

Desirable Skills:

• Experience working with translation management systems and online project platforms
• Familiarity with industry-specific terminology in areas such as contracts, compliance, finance, or technical manuals
• Previous experience working with agencies or multiple clients in a freelance or contract capacity
• Ability to handle formatting of complex documents (tables, charts, templates) within translation workflows
• Knowledge of SEO principles for web content translation and localization

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Languages, or a related field
• Professional translation certification or accreditation (e.g., OTTIAQ, ATIO, or equivalent) preferred
• Documented track record of professional translation work (portfolio, references, or project list)
• Ongoing professional development in translation, localization, or CAT tools considered an asset
