Job Description
Affirma is looking for a talented Mid-Level UX Designer to join our growing team. In this role, you'll be a strategic advocate for users translating complex business and technical requirements into intuitive, elegant digitl experiences. You'll work across a diverse client portfolio, with a strong focus on Microsoft SharePoint Modern intranet and digital workplace solutions, alongside broader UX engagements.
You'll collaborate closely with project managers, visual designers, developers, and client stakeholders guiding products from discovery through delivery. Whether you're rethinking how a global enterprise communicates internally through SharePoint, or designing a brand-new customer-facing product experience, your work will have measurable impact.
At Affirma, you'll engage with clients ranging from those launching their first digital platform to industry innovators like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon. Affirma is a fast-growing, full-service technology consulting agency headquartered in Bellevue, WA, with team members working remotely across the US and internationally. Ranked among Puget Sound Business Journal's "Best Workplaces", we offer exciting projects, a relaxed culture, and a flexible work environment. Employee satisfaction, customer success, and delivering exceptional solutions are at the heart of everything we do.
What You'll Do
UX & Design
- Drive user-centered design (UCD) methods across the full product lifecycle from research and discovery through wireframing, prototyping, and launch
- Distill complex client problems into clear, elegant, and informed design solutions
- Design and deliver information architecture, user personas and journeys, wireframes, and interactive prototypes optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces
- Identify the most appropriate research and testing methods within client constraints and execute on them effectively
- Present creative work, articulate your design rationale, and confidently defend your decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Participate in and occasionally facilitate collaborative design workshops and working sessions
SharePoint Modern – Core Focus
- Design intuitive, on-brand intranet and digital workplace experiences using SharePoint Modern, with a deep understanding of its capabilities, constraints, and component ecosystem
- Translate client requirements into thoughtful SharePoint site architectures, page layouts, navigation structures, and web part configurations that prioritize usability and adoption
- Create UX documentation and design specifications tailored to SharePoint's out-of-the-box (OOTB) and custom web part development model
- Partner with SharePoint developers to ensure design intent is accurately implemented — understanding what's achievable natively vs. what requires customization via SPFx (SharePoint Framework)
- Design with Microsoft Fluent UI design language in mind, ensuring visual and experiential consistency across Microsoft 365 touchpoints (Teams, Viva Connections, SharePoint, etc.)
- Conduct UX audits of existing SharePoint environments to identify friction points and develop actionable recommendations
- Help clients understand governance, content strategy, and information architecture best practices as they relate to the SharePoint ecosystem
- Advocate for accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) within SharePoint environments, navigating platform constraints thoughtfully
Collaboration & Integration
- Integrate seamlessly with cross-functional teammates — Visual Design, Development, Engagement Managers, and Project Managers — to deliver best-in-class solutions
- Serve as a design thought leader on client engagements, helping educate stakeholders on the strategic value of UX investment
What You Bring
Experience & Portfolio
- 4+ years of experience in UX or interaction design, with a strong emphasis on human-centered design methods
- Demonstrated experience designing for SharePoint Modern; you understand its layouts, web parts, navigation patterns, and the design constraints of the platform
- A portfolio or case studies that clearly demonstrate:
- The problem(s) you were tasked to solve
- Your design process and decision-making
- How SharePoint (or other platform constraints) shaped your approach
- Measurable outcomes or lessons learned
Core Skills
- Experience conducting UX audits of existing systems and delivering actionable recommendations
- Proficiency in developing information architecture, user flows, and user personas
- Ability to create both conceptual and detailed wireframes and prototypes
- Comfort working within platform-defined constraints while still advocating for strong UX outcomes
- Experience analyzing research findings, documenting insights, and clearly articulating recommendations to clients.
Soft Skills
- Approach every engagement with curiosity, humility, and an open mind
- Organized, self-directed, and capable of managing your own workload across multiple projects
- A natural communicator; able to champion human-centered design to non-technical stakeholders and make the business case for UX investment
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively across teams with varied skill sets and experience levels
- A genuine drive to grow your craft and actively share knowledge with teammates
- Curiosity about emerging technologies, design trends, and evolving tools and methods
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Bonus Points (not required, but we'd love it)
- Experience working in a consulting or agency environment
- Familiarity with SPFx (SharePoint Framework) and what's possible with custom development. You don't need to code it, but understanding it makes you a stronger design partner
- Experience designing within Microsoft Viva (Viva Connections, Viva Engage, etc.)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Fluent UI design principles and component libraries
- Proficiency designing accessible experiences (WCAG 2.1 AA or higher)
- Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
- UI/visual design experience
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
- Microsoft 365 certifications or demonstrated platform knowledge beyond SharePoint
