Development Director for a Community-Based Non-Profit - Located in Washington County, Oregon
Acumen Executive Search is delighted to partner with a Community-Based Non-Profit in Washington County, OR to find their next Development Director. This non-profit has over 50 years’ experience in supporting the community and is shaping Oregon’s future by advancing racial justice and uplifting underserved communities. This nonprofit serves as a critical resource for housing, healthcare, education, economic empowerment, and food security.
The Development Director is the strategic partner to the leadership team and reports directly to the Executive Director (ED). The Development Director will be responsible for shaping the narrative of their accomplishments and impact while bringing investments to the community. The Development Director manages funder relationships, plans large fundraising events and campaigns, and oversees grant writing and procurement. They are looking for a strong Director who actively works to identify and cultivate existing and new donors, partners, and opportunities to catalyze impact.
Working across the organization with program directors to understand impact and investment, the Development Director also works closely with Marketing and Communications to create the story of impact and needs of the community. This person serves as an external representative and manages a small grant-writing and admin team.

Essential Job Duties
Development and Donor Stewardship
- Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive development strategy aligned with the organization’s mission & goals.
- Meet with community members, major donors, and institutional partners in identifying what is important to them, craft the success story, in order to increase donor giving and new opportunities.
- Oversee major gift giving and solicitation, as well as planned giving initiatives, to secure significant financial commitments.
- Manage high-level relationships with corporate partners, foundations, and public sector institutional partners while working with the team to track key communications and continuously strengthen relationships.
- Working closely with the Board of Directors to leverage their networks and resources for fundraising purposes.
- Identify and secure corporate sponsorships and partnerships to support events and programs.
- Oversee fundraising events throughout the year to gather key supporters, raise funds, and communicate a clear call to action.
- Develop and implement donor retention strategies to build long-term relationships with stakeholders and supporters (today over 500 donors).
- Implement data-driven strategies that result in a strong funding base for the organization, maintain and grow programs.
Grant Management
- Oversee strong grant management team performing screening, grant preparation, internal scope, grant writing, submission, and post-award communication.
Organizational Culture Development
- Supervise Development Team:
- Performance Management
- Setting department goals and objectives for team members
- Perform evaluations and provide feedback, and mentoring
- Identify training and development needs and coordinate programs
- Address performance issues and implement corrective actions when necessary
- Liaise with the Board of Directors to achieve fundraising goals and strategies.
- Establish a culture of teamwork and communications; create a workplace that promotes the organizational values of compassion, respect, and community service
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- A minimum of 6 to 8 years of Development experience with at least 3 years' people management experience, talent management, and succession planning.
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant lived experience that aligns with professional competencies and skills needed to perform the position.
- Bilingual, English/Spanish in verbal and written form is a plus.
- 6 to 8 years’ experience planning and running fundraising events.
- 6 to 8 years’ experience in grant writing and/or supporting grant writing.
- Experience managing CRMs and databases in fundraising context.
- 6 to 8 years’ experience and a proven track record of securing large financial commitments from individuals, corporations, and/or foundations.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
