Director of Operations for Boutique Food Distributor – South Portland Metro

Our client is a leader in the food distribution industry, specializing in imported and local produce. They are a global trading company that is passionate about quality, growth, and environmental stewardship.  Their beautiful distribution center is LEED-certified and the first green building in Oregon used for fresh produce distribution.

They are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Operations to oversee distribution operations and people management.  This newly created role will oversee distribution operations, including logistics, warehousing, inventory management, people management, and customer service. This role requires a strategic leader with a deep understanding of the distribution industry and a proven ability to manage complex operations efficiently and effectively.

Compensation:
Salary of $130,000 to $150,000 per year and a generous benefits package.

 Your key responsibilities would include:

Leadership and Management:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of distribution operations, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.

Operational Oversight:

  • Oversee logistics, warehousing, and inventory management to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
  • Optimize processes and ensure quality control
  • Implement and maintain best practices in distribution and supply chain management.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance operational efficiency and profitability, risk control, strategy, performance metrics, goal setting, and policy development.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the distribution department, ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Analyze financial reports and data to make informed business decisions.
  • Optimize cost management and identify opportunities for revenue growth.

Sales and Customer Service:

  • Collaborate with the sales team to develop and execute strategies to meet customer needs and achieve sales targets.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service standards are met or exceeded.
  • Address customer feedback and resolve issues in a timely manner.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and safety standards.
  • Implement and maintain health and safety protocols to protect employees and assets.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to compliance and safety standards.

Human Resources:

  • Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Implement performance management systems and employee engagement programs.
  • Address employee concerns and foster a culture of open communication for a culturally diverse workforce.

 Requirements for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an operations manager or in a similar senior management supervisory role within the distribution industry.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and working closely with the human resource department.
  • Strong understanding of distribution operations, logistics, quality control, and supply chain management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Culturally competent to work with a diverse group of staff.
  • Proficiency in using distribution and supply chain management software and tools.
  • Transportation and ODOT experience highly desired.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
