North America HR Director - Consumer Products Manufacturing - Western Oregon

Acumen Executive Search is delighted to partner with our client to find their next North America HR Director due to high growth and internal promotions. The company boasts a family-friendly culture, low turnover, and a culture which gives back to the local community.

The HR Director is the strategic HR Business Partner to the leadership. The company consists of a production site with adjacent functions as well as Marketing and Sales. The role reports to the Global VP of HR and is responsible for support of business objectives, strategic goals, and human resources initiatives. The HR Director is a trusted advisor to employees and business leaders regarding HR policies and drives and supports processes to optimize employee engagement. The position has a special focus on the global annual reward cycle and will liaise with the CHRO and other HR leaders to optimize HR programs, processes, and strategic initiatives that drive long-term business results.

  • Have served as a strategic business and thought partner to the C-level and Leadership Team across business units such as Operations, R&D, Marketing, and Sales.
  • Have a track record of building and supporting organizational design.
  • Have experience and enjoy developing and rolling out innovative benefits, compensation, and total rewards programs.
  • Have experienced successes in guiding, mentoring, and coaching on various people initiatives, including conflict resolution, performance management, and employee engagement.
  • Have overseen HR policies and processes, including those in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • Have managed the departmental budget.
  • Are comfortable working with different time zones.
  • Enjoy working with colleagues in a hybrid environment – with the possibility of 2 days remote.
  • Enjoy occasional travel to other locations, including internationally (15%)
  • Are well-versed in State and Federal employment laws (EEO, FMLA, OFLA, PFML, OSHA etc.)

Essential Job Duties 

Strategic Business Partnering                                                                                                   60%

  • Co-create HR and Culture strategy that aligns with the business strategy, goals, and objectives.
  • Provide advice and counsel to management and employees to ensure consistent application and integration of policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues.
  • Work with the CHRO to continually improve overall talent management strategy, including strategic workforce planning, performance reviews, and succession planning.
  • Work closely with Talent Director to identify training needs for the different business units and individual coaching needs.
  • Work closely with the Talent Acquisition Manager in the recruiting process and liaise on identifying capability gaps and future needs.
  • Support yearly employee engagement survey and action planning.
  • Be a champion for well-being programs, ensuring HR strategies align to the overall well-being.
  • Manage the total rewards program; analyze trends in compensation and key benefit programs (medical, dental, etc.); research and propose competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Lead execution of the global Annual Rewards Cycle
  • Lead and partner HR projects and initiatives locally and globally in partnership with the CHRO.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in HR.
  • Responsible for departmental budget.

People Leadership, Values, and Culture                                                                                 30%

  • Lead and develop the HR Team personal and professional growth.
  • Analyze HR Processes across the company to identify, recommend, and implement opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with Culture and Experience team in support of programs aligned with the company Mission and Values.
  • Role model the mission, vision, and values and supports the ongoing development of the organization’s culture.

Compliance Management                                                                                                            10%

  • Oversee legal compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, wage, and hour laws, as well as employee safety, welfare, wellness, and health.
  • Ensure compliance of all HR policies, reduce risks, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Review and recommend changes to company policies, procedures, and practices to implement industry best practices.
  • Partners with Operations to support compliance with all Health & Safety requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Education/Experience 

  • A minimum of 10 years of Human Resource related experience with at least 3 years' people management experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration or human resources or equivalent experience required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • SHRM CP credential preferred.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing is required.

  • Management experience and manufacturing leadership experience is required.
  • Skilled at developing strong relationships with senior executives across the organization, earning high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust.
  • Effective collaborator, building strong partnerships with diverse, cross-functional, and regional teams.
  • Proficient in identifying and managing stakeholders, understanding their needs, concerns, and adapting accordingly.
  • Strong organizational development and project management skills, with the ability to develop and execute comprehensive strategies and programs.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Highly organized, able to multitask and manage competing priorities with precision.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguous, unclear, or conflicting information.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong leadership capabilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of multiple human resources disciplines, including compensation.
  • Thorough understanding of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
