Job Description

Our client, a growing <$25 Million Advocacy organization located in Manhattan, is seeking a Controller (Head of Finance) to lead the entirety of Accounting and Finance for the organization. This position will report into the Executive Director and lead a small team. This is a unique opportunity to help scale new revenue streams, enhance organization-wide processes and systems, and serve as a strategic thought partner to both leadership and the board.

Responsibilities

• Lead the organization’s financial strategy, planning, and forecasting
• Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and Development heads
• Manage the General Ledger across the entirety of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grants
• Lead all audits and month end, quarterly, and annual closes
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable regulations
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and present findings to leadership and the Board of Directors
• Manage cash flow sand banking relationships
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements
• Prepare for and lead the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors
• Oversee the financial aspects of grant applications, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance
• Supervise and mentor your team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environmen

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related; MBA, CNAP, or CPA preferred
• 8+ years of progressive, non-profit accounting experience
• Proven leadership experience
• In-depth knowledge of GAAP and city, state, federal, and non-profit tax regulations
• Strong FP&A and GL Accounting experience
• Excellent communication Skills
