Job Description

Our client, a long-established and continually growing construction-based company, is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee full-cycle accounting and financial management. 

This is a permanent, hands-on leadership role is based in Bedford, NS and is ideal for someone with strong industry experience who thrives in a fast-paced, project-based environment. Reporting directly to the Owners, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting growth, and ensuring compliance. 

Key Responsibilities for the Job:
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting and financial management
  • Manage invoicing processes, with a strong focus on government contracts
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to meet bonding requirements
  • Partner closely with project managers on project-based financial tracking and cost control
  • Supervise and support two in-house bookkeepers (bank/credit card reconciliations, invoicing, general bookkeeping)
  • Coordinate with external auditors and accountants
  • Maintain and optimize accounting processes
  • Strengthen internal controls and financial reporting procedures

Experience & Attributes for Success:
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with strong exposure to the construction industry
  • Direct experience with government contracts and related reporting requirements
  • Strong understanding of job costing and project-based accounting
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks
  • Familiarity with local geography and regional project locations
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with ownership and project teams
  • Strong leadership skills with a commitment to fostering an engaging and driven environment 
  • Comfortable in a growth-oriented, deadline-driven environment
