Job Description

Are you a dedicated Accountant looking for a challenging and rewarding role on the South Shore of Nova Scotia? Our client in Mahone Bay is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated accounting professional to join their team. This is an excellent permanent opportunity for someone who thrives in a hands-on role and is eager to contribute to the financial success of a trusted local team.

Key Responsibilities for the Job: 
  • Perform full-cycle monthly reconciliations, including bank accounts, credit cards, subledgers, and interfund transfers
  • Maintain and manage the General Ledger, including posting transactions, maintaining the chart of accounts, and ensuring proper revenue and expense distribution
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and departmental reports, including variance analysis, for review with senior management
  • HST remittances and ensuring reconciliations align with G/L balances in compliance with tax and accounting regulations.
  • Support the annual audit process
  • Track and manage external funding and grants, ensuring proper accounting treatment, reporting, and compliance
  • Ensure timely month-end and year-end close
  • Monitor compliance with internal controls, policies, and accounting standards, and recommend improvements where necessary
  • Assist with special finance projects and strategic initiatives
Experience & Attributes for Success:
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or a related field required
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) or actively working toward designation is preferred
  • 3–5 years of experience in finance and accounting, ideally within a public sector environment
  • Proficiency in accounting and finance software including PayWorks and Office 365
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Adaptable and resourceful, with a proactive approach to meeting deadlines and improving processes
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
