Job Description

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Controller to lead the accounting operations of our client’s professional services firm in Halifax, NS. This high-volume, hands-on role offers a flexible part-time schedule and is available as a 4–6 month contract to start.

Key Responsibilities for the Job:

  • Oversee full-cycle accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and month-end/year-end close
  • Ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements and corporate policies
  • Manage cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting 
  • Support audits and tax filings, coordinating with external auditors and tax authorities
  • Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and financial controls
  • Lead and mentor accounting team

Experience & Attributes for Success:

  • 7 - 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting and leadership responsibilities 
  • CPA designation is an asset but not required
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting experience
  • Proficiency in accounting software, particularly Sage50 and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with clients and internal team members
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
