Job Description

Our client is in search of a Payroll Accountant to join their team in New Glasgow, NS. This is permanent opportunity as part of a leading, values-driven company. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for payroll-related accounting, supporting collaboration between finance and human resources to ensure top-notch financial records and continuous process improvements.

Key Responsibilities for the Job:

  • Prepare payroll journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end reports
  • Support GL reconciliation and financial audits for payroll and G&A
  • Ensure payroll compliance with all relevant regulations
  • Monitor and implement legislative updates affecting payroll accounting
  • Assist with payroll-related financial statements and variance reporting
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate payroll cost allocations
  • Analyze payroll and G&A data for insights and improvements
  • Track and report on G&A expenses, identifying efficiencies
  • Identify and implement payroll process improvements and automation
  • Support system updates, testing, and enhancements
  • Maintain accurate payroll data in financial systems

Experience & Attributes for Success:

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of payroll accounting experience
  • PCP or CPM designation is an asset
  • Strong understanding of payroll laws and best practices
  • Experience with payroll/accounting systems (Yardi considered an asset)
  • Proficient in Excel and financial reporting tools
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communicator with a collaborative mindset
  • A problem-solver’s mentality, with a desire to boost efficiency and stay productive
