Commercial HVAC Start-Up Technician
We are seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Start-Up Technician to perform startup, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of newly installed commercial HVAC equipment while ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Start up and commission rooftop units, split systems, VRF systems, chillers, heat pumps, DOAS units, makeup air units, and other commercial HVAC equipment.
- Verify equipment installation, perform airflow testing, balancing verification, refrigerant charging, and operational testing.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, controls, and startup issues.
- Coordinate with project managers, foremen, controls contractors, and manufacturers.
- Complete commissioning reports, startup documentation, and warranty paperwork.
- Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer guidelines, local codes, and OSHA regulations.
- Provide customer training and respond to warranty/startup-related service calls as needed.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of commercial HVAC experience, including equipment startup and commissioning.
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, electrical diagnostics, airflow, HVAC controls, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- EPA Universal Certification required.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred
- Factory startup or commissioning experience.
- Experience with Carrier, Trane, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Lennox, York, AAON, or similar commercial equipment.
- Familiarity with BAS/Building Automation Systems.
- NATE, OSHA 10, or OSHA 30 certifications preferred.
