Job Description

Commercial HVAC Start-Up Technician

We are seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Start-Up Technician to perform startup, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of newly installed commercial HVAC equipment while ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Start up and commission rooftop units, split systems, VRF systems, chillers, heat pumps, DOAS units, makeup air units, and other commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Verify equipment installation, perform airflow testing, balancing verification, refrigerant charging, and operational testing.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, controls, and startup issues.
  • Coordinate with project managers, foremen, controls contractors, and manufacturers.
  • Complete commissioning reports, startup documentation, and warranty paperwork.
  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturer guidelines, local codes, and OSHA regulations.
  • Provide customer training and respond to warranty/startup-related service calls as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of commercial HVAC experience, including equipment startup and commissioning.
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, electrical diagnostics, airflow, HVAC controls, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • EPA Universal Certification required.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred

  • Factory startup or commissioning experience.
  • Experience with Carrier, Trane, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Lennox, York, AAON, or similar commercial equipment.
  • Familiarity with BAS/Building Automation Systems.
  • NATE, OSHA 10, or OSHA 30 certifications preferred.
