Job Description

Duties & responsibilities:

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture in labs and daily activities; immediately report any safety concerns and ensure safety reviews are completed for all test setups.

  • Lead test planning meetings with design teams and ensure no testing occurs without an approved, documented test plan.

  • Set up and execute tests in PE Labs and Commons Lab; support Tech Center system testing and PPG/TPG testing as required.

  • Document all test results in formal reports on the test team drive to ensure long-term traceability and easy retrieval.

  • Present test results and findings to design teams and stakeholders as needed.

  • Develop and maintain standard work templates for test activities.

  • Update Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Safe Job Procedure documentation as required.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and audit-ready test benches and laboratory areas.

  • Order and manage parts and materials required for testing activities.

  • Track component updates and issues within the PPRD system.

  • Initiate myNPI issues from PPRD events when appropriate and collaborate with design teams to drive resolution.

  • Ensure compliance with the Caterpillar Quality Management System (CQMS) and ISO 9001 requirements.


Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with verification and validation testing.

  • Solid understanding of lab safety practices, including LOTO procedures.

  • Experience with test planning, execution, and formal reporting.

  • Familiarity with data acquisition, instrumentation, and test bench setup.

  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and system-level issues.

  • Strong documentation, organization, and attention to detail.

  • Experience working with cross-functional design teams.

  • Working knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 9001.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering documentation tools.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field (required).

  • 3–6 years of relevant experience in verification, validation, or test engineering roles.

  • Experience in heavy equipment, off-highway, or industrial environments preferred. Prior experience with CQMS, PPRD, or myNPI systems is a plus.
