Director of Safety – Industrial Construction

Position Overview

A growing industrial construction organization is seeking an experienced Director of Safety to lead its safety strategy across multiple project sites. This role is responsible for building, managing, and continuously improving the company’s safety programs to ensure a secure work environment for employees, subcontractors, partners, and visitors. The ideal candidate is a proactive safety professional who can champion compliance, raise awareness, and promote a culture where safety is embedded in everyday decision‑making.


Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership & Program Management

  • Develop and oversee company-wide safety policies, procedures, and protocols aligned with OSHA requirements and current industry practices.
  • Conduct field inspections and perform comprehensive safety audits to identify risks, verify compliance, and guide corrective actions.
  • Lead and coordinate training initiatives covering safety practices, emergency response, and site‑specific requirements.

Incident & Risk Management

  • Manage incident investigations, determine root causes, and direct corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Work closely with operational and project leadership to implement safety controls tailored to each project’s scope and environment.
  • Track incident metrics, analyze trends, and present findings to senior management to support ongoing improvements.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as the primary resource for safety-related questions, supporting project teams and stakeholders across the organization.
  • Encourage open communication and actively cultivate a culture where employees feel empowered to report concerns and share best practices.
  • Stay informed on advancements in safety technologies, regulatory updates, and industry trends to ensure organizational alignment with evolving standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years of safety leadership experience within the construction sector, preferably with significant exposure to industrial environments.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management best practices.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to influence personnel at all levels.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CHST, or equivalent are preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; this employer does not offer visa sponsorship.

Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Frequent travel to project sites, fabrication facilities, and client locations, sometimes under varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb ladders or stairs, bend, reach, and lift up to 25 lbs during inspections or investigations.
  • Must be capable of navigating active construction sites, including uneven surfaces, scaffolding, and elevated work areas.
  • Regular use of computers and standard office equipment required.
  • Must be able to wear all mandated PPE, such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and protective footwear.
  • Position may require up to 50% travel depending on project needs.
