
Senior Electrical & Automation Engineer – EPC Projects
Location: Little Rock, AR 72206
A multidisciplinary construction and engineering firm is hiring a seasoned professional to lead electrical and automation efforts on large-scale EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) projects, particularly within the metals and minerals industry. This role involves overseeing the full lifecycle of electrical and control systems—from design through commissioning—ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations in heavy industrial environments.
Role Overview
The selected candidate will:
- Spearhead the design and implementation of electrical power and automation/control systems throughout all EPC phases (FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning).
- Create and validate technical documentation including single-line diagrams, instrumentation datasheets, I/O lists, control panel layouts, and SCADA/DCS configurations.
- Conduct and review electrical system studies such as load flow, short-circuit analysis, arc-flash assessments, and protection coordination.
- Ensure adherence to applicable standards and codes (NEC, IEC, IEEE, ISA, etc.).
- Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of systems including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and industrial networks.
- Collaborate with vendors to assess and select automation hardware/software, MCCs, and switchgear.
- Provide guidance to contractors, engineering partners, and junior staff.
- Serve as the technical point of contact for clients, resolving design and commissioning challenges.
- Promote digital transformation and smart plant technologies to enhance operational reliability and efficiency.
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation, or Control Engineering (Master’s degree is a plus).
- Minimum of 15 years in electrical and automation engineering, with at least 8 years focused on EPC projects in heavy industry (e.g., mining, metals).
- Deep familiarity with tools such as ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, and programming platforms from Siemens, Rockwell, ABB, Schneider, etc.
- Strong command of PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, field instrumentation, and industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
- Demonstrated leadership, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving capabilities.
Work Authorization:
- Must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship. Sponsorship is not available for this role.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based with extended periods of computer use.
- Occasional physical activity including walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Site visits may involve exposure to construction environments, including noise, dust, and weather conditions.
- Use of personal protective equipment may be required during site inspections.
