What we are looking for:
The Company is looking for a Tax Manager to join our location in greater Detroit, MI. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a team environment. This individual will have an opportunity to make lasting and positive changes within the team and the Company as a whole!
Operational Tax Management:
Compliance and Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely filing of:
USA: All federal, state, and local tax returns, including income tax, sales tax, and property tax returns.
Mexico: All Mexican tax returns, including corporate income tax, value-added tax (IVA), and other relevant taxes.
Tax Planning: Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize the Company’s overall tax liability while adhering to applicable laws and regulations.
Tax Audit: Coordinate with external auditors during tax audits, providing necessary documentation and support to ensure a smooth audit process.
Research and Analysis: Conduct tax research to stay informed on changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the Company’s operations.
Local Tax Coordination: Work closely with local tax advisors and the Company’s operations team to address any tax-related issues and ensure seamless tax management.
Tax Incentives:
Stay updated on local, national, and international tax laws to identify available tax incentives aligned with the Company’s operations and goals.
Evaluate the potential benefits of pursuing specific incentives against the costs and administrative burden, including sector-specific incentives such as R&D credits.
Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor current and deferred income taxes and their impact on the Company’s financial performance.
Cross-Border Tax Coordination:
International Tax Planning: Collaborate with the Company’s international tax team to develop and implement cross-border tax strategies, including structuring international transactions and optimizing supply chain arrangements to minimize tax exposure.
Transfer Pricing:
Develop and maintain transfer pricing policies and documentation for intercompany transactions between U.S. and Mexican operations, ensuring compliance with both U.S. and Mexican transfer pricing regulations.
Evaluate cost allocation across the headquarters to ensure alignment with the arm’s length principle.
Customs and Trade: Coordinate with customs and trade advisors to ensure compliance with customs regulations and optimize duty payments for imports and exports between the U.S. and Mexico.
Remittance: Ensure compliance with withholding tax obligations and optimize cross-border payment structures (e.g., service fees, royalties, dividends) to minimize tax risks.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher. Master’s degree or CPA certification preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in tax.
Strong background in U.S. federal and state tax laws and regulations as well as Mexican tax laws and regulations.
Prior experience in one of the Big Four accounting firms is preferred.
Prior experience in the automotive industry is required.
Skills and Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of U.S. and Mexican tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations and provide practical solutions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Prior experience in SAP is preferred.
Language: Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in Spanish and/or Mandarin is highly desirable.
