323 Recruitment is working with an established and well-respected civil construction company based in beautiful Wānaka, and we're looking for a skilled Excavator Operator / Civil All-Rounder to join their team.

Our client is an established civil construction contractor delivering quality earthworks, drainage, roading, infrastructure and subdivision projects throughout Wānaka and the wider Central Otago region.

About the Role

You'll be operating excavators across a range of civil construction sites, supporting earthworks, trenching, drainage installations, site preparation and infrastructure construction.

This is a hands-on position where versatility matters. We're not looking for someone who only wants to sit in a cab all day.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Operating excavators safely and efficiently across civil construction sites.
• Excavating trenches for stormwater, wastewater and water supply services.
• Carrying out bulk and detailed earthworks.
• Completing site preparation, trimming, backfilling and compaction.
• Working safely around existing underground services.
• Assisting drainlayers and ground crews with pipe laying and installations.
• Reading and interpreting construction drawings and site levels.
• Conducting daily plant inspections and maintaining equipment.
• Getting involved on the ground when required.
• Maintaining high health, safety and environmental standards.

What We're Looking For

• Proven excavator operating experience in civil construction.
• Competence in trenching, bulk earthworks and detailed excavation.
• Experience working around drainage and underground services.
• WTR endorsements preferred.
• Class 2 or higher licence advantageous.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
• Strong understanding of site safety and excavation practices.
• Reliability, initiative and a great work ethic.
• A genuine team player who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty.
• Pride in your workmanship and the machinery you operate.
